African Safari Animals in 3D & AR
Explore Africa’s iconic safari animals in interactive 3D and augmented reality. View lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo before placing them in your own space using AR on supported mobile devices.
Male Lion – The Icon of the African Safari
The male lion is one of Africa’s most recognisable safari animals, known for its powerful build, impressive mane and role in protecting the pride. In augmented reality, the lion gives visitors a strong sense of scale, presence and movement.
Lions are social big cats that live in prides, usually made up of related females, their cubs and one or more adult males. The male lion is often seen as the symbol of the African wilderness.
AR tip: Try placing the lion on the floor in an open space to understand how large and powerful this animal appears at life-size.
Lioness – The Hunter of the Pride
The lioness is one of Africa’s most skilled predators. Built for speed, teamwork and precision, lionesses usually do much of the hunting for the pride, working together to stalk, chase and bring down prey across open savannah and bushveld.
In 3D and augmented reality, the lioness gives visitors a closer look at the power and grace of Africa’s most famous big cat. Her lean body, alert posture and focused movement make her one of the strongest animals to include in a Safari AR Zoo experience.
AR tip: Place the lioness on the floor in an open space and walk around the model to understand her size, body shape and hunting posture.
Leopard – The Stealth Hunter of the Big Five
The leopard is one of Africa’s most elusive safari animals. Powerful, secretive and beautifully camouflaged, leopards are known for their spotted coats, silent movement and ability to disappear into trees, rocks and thick bush.
Unlike lions, leopards are mostly solitary. They rely on stealth rather than teamwork, often hunting at night and using their strength to drag prey into trees away from scavengers. This makes the leopard one of the most exciting Big Five animals to explore in 3D and augmented reality.
AR tip: Place the leopard on the floor or near furniture to understand how low, muscular and compact this predator is compared with the lion.
African Elephant – Africa’s Largest Land Animal
The African elephant is the largest land animal on Earth and one of the most impressive safari animals to experience in augmented reality. Its huge body, long trunk, wide ears and powerful tusks make it instantly recognisable.
Elephants are highly intelligent, social animals that live in family herds led by experienced females. They communicate using sound, touch, body language and low-frequency calls that can travel over long distances.
AR tip: The elephant works best in a larger open space. Place it on the floor in AR and step back to appreciate its true size and presence.
Rhino – A Powerful Big Five Conservation Icon
The rhino is one of Africa’s most powerful and recognisable safari animals. With its heavy body, thick skin and impressive horn, the rhino has become one of the strongest symbols of African wildlife and conservation.
Rhinos are usually calm when undisturbed, but their size and strength make them one of the most respected animals in the bush. Seeing a rhino in 3D and augmented reality helps visitors understand its scale, body shape and presence before encountering one on safari.
AR tip: Place the rhino on the floor in an open area and view it from the side to appreciate its heavy shoulders, strong legs and powerful body shape.
African Buffalo – One of the Toughest Animals in the Big Five
The African buffalo is one of the most powerful and unpredictable animals in the Big Five. With its heavy build, strong neck, wide horns and solid body shape, the buffalo is an iconic part of the African safari experience.
Buffalo are highly social animals that usually live in herds, where safety comes from numbers and group behaviour. Although they are grazing animals, their strength and defensive nature make them one of the most respected animals in the African bush.
AR tip: Place the buffalo on the floor in an open area and view it from the front to appreciate its broad chest, curved horns and powerful stance.

The African Safari Animals in 3D & AR experience allows visitors, families, divers and wildlife enthusiasts to explore Africa’s most iconic land animals in interactive 3D and augmented reality. This page is also designed as an alternative digital wildlife experience for days when ocean conditions prevent diving. On the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, wind, swell, surf launch conditions or visibility can sometimes cancel planned Protea Banks dives. When that happens, visitors can still enjoy an African wildlife experience through the Safari AR Zoo, Shark AR Zoo and Ocean Megafauna AR pages.
African Dive Adventures™ uses interactive 3D and AR tools to make wildlife education more visual, memorable and accessible. Whether you are planning a dive, waiting for better weather, travelling with family or exploring Africa online, these AR experiences help users understand animal scale, body shape and movement in a more immersive way.

Why Add a Safari AR Zoo to a Dive Website?
Many visitors who come to South Africa for diving are also interested in African wildlife, safari animals and conservation. The Safari AR Zoo gives those visitors another way to engage with African wildlife before, during or after their dive trip.
Protea Banks diving is weather dependent. Wind, swell, surf launch conditions or poor visibility can sometimes cancel planned dives. When this happens, visitors do not have to lose the day. They can explore the Safari AR Zoo online and, where possible, travel to local game parks and wildlife attractions on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.
Dive In Adventures Tours can help visitors organise alternative wildlife experiences when diving is not possible, including local safari and nature-based options. This makes the Safari AR Zoo a useful planning tool as well as an interactive education experience, connecting ocean adventure, African wildlife and conservation in one place.
